Arsenal suffer fresh injury blow in Champions League clash with Bayern

Arsenal have suffered a fresh injury blow during their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Wednesday night

Arsenal have suffered a fresh injury blow as Leandro Trossard was forced off during the first half against Bayern Munich in the Champions League with what appeared to be a calf problem.

The evening had started brightly for the Gunners, with Jurrien Timber firing the hosts into an early lead. Bayern responded swiftly, however, as Lennart Karl scored from a Serge Gnary’s cross to bring the visitors level.

Shortly after the equaliser, Trossard went down clutching his calf and required immediate attention from the medical team. The Belgian, clearly unable to continue, made his way straight down the tunnel, an ominous sign for Mikel Arteta ahead of a crucial Premier League fixture this weekend.

Arsenal travel across London to face Chelsea on Sunday, and Trossard now faces an anxious wait to determine whether he will be fit for the derby. Arteta does have cover in wide areas, with Noni Madueke, who replaced Trossard on the night and Gabriel Martinelli both available and nearing full sharpness after recent injury layoffs. Their timely returns may prove vital should Trossard’s issue rule him out.
